A Universe Reset

Just got back from J.J. Abram's Star Trek, which I went by myself (as usual) at the Middleburg Hts. Regal. On the way there I almost had a close encounter of the cervine type, but I braked in time, to let the deer cross the Metropark road unassailed. I got there with about ten minutes to spare, medium next to huge Coke in hand.
In general, I like this reset: it has potential. Keep in mind it is a very AU version (like every Transformers-verse is an AU of G1-era silliness) of the original, even the infamous "Mirror Universe". Newcomers to the fandom will have to get used to a a rougher-edged universe where everything isn't so "showroom new" as in the past, but where this stuff actually wears out and breaks from time to time, like the base on Delta Vega where Scotty and his assistant were found; that place could use a janitor crew to come in at least once a week! Don't plan to visit Vulcan any time soon: you'll find that it sucked inside itself, and no amount of Kohlinar will ever bring that back.
As for my prior bellyaching about the design of both the ship and bridge? Scratch that, they are fine next to the engineering department: I was expecting something that would match the rest of the ship, but saw the inside of a chemical plant instead. Literally. The production crew and staff could have out more thought into how the department should look, and fit the overall design at least.
Lastly... Shockwave surfing? I guess it'll take the cast of "Mythbusters" to get around to that one.
Of the trailers shown: yup, TF2 as well as the next Terminator were shown, G.I. Joe I might give serious consideration to as well, even though I guessed it right-off as soon as I saw the Baroness (rawr!).
