MIDI Fail is... um, yeah, that's right

Finally got around Wednesday to trying the "direct approach" to getting Music Creator 4 to even see midi signals from any controller via the interface. Luna recorded something but I couldn't get it to transmit anything, while MC4 was like "I can't hear ya, la-la-la!". That's all I need, a juvenile music app! Thinking that it was the driver/firmware, I even updated both with no improvement. Still audio is not the problem: in fact it is way better than when I was bouncing between two cassette decks at one time early on. I may want to try the bundled, and very limited featured copy of CuBase that I got with the interface just to see if it'll do the job.
I almost never had this problem back in my MacOS days with a simple Opcode serial port interface: it was a simple matter of power-up/get sequencing back then.
